Retailer
of
the
Year
Award
from
the
North
Carolina
Association
of
Convenience
Stores
(NCACS)
during
the
NCACS
annual
convention
in
Hilton
Head,
S.C.
Audrey
Shearin,
president
of
Eastern
Petroleum
Corp.
and
a
NCACS
Board
member,
accepted
the
award,
which
recognizes
a
NCACS
member
company
for
excellence
in
community
service.
Shearin
is
the
daughter
of
the
award's
namesake,
L.
W.
Locke,
who
was
the
founder
of
Eastern
Petroleum
Corp.
Enfield,
N.C.-based
Eastern
Petroleum
Corp.
has
provided
assistance
to
communities
in
which
its
stores
operate
by
helping
families
impacted
by
floods
or
fires,
rewarding
students
for
academic
achievement,
and
supplying
athletic
uniforms
to
local
teams,
reports
the
Commonwealth
Progress.
The
company
has
also
donated
funds
to
the
United
Way,
Muscular
Dystrophy
Association,
Boys
and
Girls
Club,
Special
Olympics
and
local
fire
departments.
It
also
has
helped
foster
economic
development
through
donations
to
Halifax
Horizons
and
Carolina
Gateway
Partnership.
It
also
raised
more
than
$20,000
for
the
Rocky
Mount
Chamber
of
Commerce.
Together
with
Exxon,
Eastern
Petroleum
Corp.
has
contributed
educational
grants
surpassing
$9,000
to
local
schools
for
reading
programs
or
to
fund
the
construction
of
additional
educational
facilities.
